The top tier of Brazilian football

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A sits at the top of Brazilian football. It is the top division under the control of the Brazilian Football Confederation. This league defines the standard for domestic competition in Brazil.

Betting on this event requires understanding that structure first. This governing body sets the rules that shape every matchday across the country. A clear picture of these facts helps you read the table before you stake anything. The data below summarises the competition's key details.

Format and teams in the league

The current setup is straightforward: since 2006, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A has featured 20 clubs playing 38 matches each in home and away games. This double round-robin system replaced an earlier format with 24 teams that ran for just a few years before stabilising. Running through the calendar year, the season culminates in a final table deciding the champion on points alone.

History shows how much the structure has shifted. In 1971, the first tournament explicitly organized as a national championship by the CBF took place, won by Atlético Mineiro. With 92 participants, the 1979 edition of the competition reached its peak, a number that has never been repeated. In August 2023, the CBF declared the 1937 Torneio dos Campeões retroactively a Brazilian championship, adding depth to the official record books.

Stakes rise as the season progresses because of continental qualification. Since 2016, the top six clubs in the Brasileirão qualify for the following Copa Libertadores. Clubs from seventh to twelfth place qualify for the following Copa Sudamericana, extending the race well beyond the title itself. You can follow the outright market all year to see who will secure those spots or lift the trophy.

Broadcast in 155 nations, the league is the most-watched football league in the Americas. This historical data on title winners is ranked by trophies won and appears below.

Markets and odds for Campeonato Brasileiro Série A on 1xBet

The match result market settles on the main outcome of a fixture. You choose between home win, draw or away win because football allows for a level score after 90 minutes. That three-way choice is the core of every pre-match slip. Handicap markets let a bettor back one side with a start or a deficit to adjust the balance when form is uneven.

Prices on live markets move as the event unfolds. In-play betting keeps the action fresh because odds react to goals, cards and momentum shifts in real time. Totals markets settle on whether a count passes a set line for over or under goals. Specials and exact-outcome markets carry higher odds for a precise call like correct score or first goalscorer.

Pricing the overall competition winner, the outright market opens long before the competition is decided. A single bet stakes one selection on its own, while an accumulator combines several selections into one price for larger potential returns. System bets keep part of the return even if some selections lose along the way. You can track how Campeonato Brasileiro Série A odds shift across these different wager types as the season progresses.

Match markets

Because a level score after 90 minutes is a settled outcome in football, the 1x2 market covers home win, draw, or away win. You can layer other options onto that core choice:

Double chance narrows the risk by covering two of those three outcomes.
Totals markets ask a simpler question about goals scored above or below a line.
Handicaps adjust the starting balance when one side is heavily favoured.

Outright and specials

From the first round to the last, the outright market prices the title race. You pick the club you think will finish top of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A table when all 38 rounds are done. Special bets cover individual players or specific events that happen across the full season, and these settle only after the final whistle blows in December.
